good morning Patriots this is Miss Campbell here with you today to talk to you about the hour of code as some of you may know this week was computer science week I didn't honor God we're going to be participating along with many many thousands of students across the world for the hour of code today we going to start you first with an introduction as to what this is about going to talk about what is going to talk about why it is important and we're going to talk about what you can expect to do tomorrow Friday during the hour of code activity so first off what is the hour of code is a one-hour into computer science to make it easier and show that anybody can learn the basics first off we going to get started with a video that's going to give you a little more explanation about this a 13 when I first got access to a computer my parents bought me a a Macintosh 1984 when I was 8 years old I was in 6th grade program to play tic tac toe in this pretty humble beginnings I think the first program I wrote asks things like what's your favorite color or how old are you how to make a green circle and a red square appear on the screen astonishing wanting to learn all of computer science discipline or anything like that turn off because I wanted to do this one simple thing I want to make something for myself and then my sisters and wrote this little program that pays to be just add a little bit to it and then wouldn't something new on the internet a little bit to it it's really not unlike going to playing instrument or something or playing support it starts having very intimidating but can I get the hang of that overtime probably knew something that can be learned and I know it can be intimidating alive things are intimidating but you know what isn't actually fairly simple it's it's more about the breaking down problems then you know swerve coming up with complicated algorithms this people to actually think about it  you don't have coochieness to know how to determine fractions that's about it she probably know your multiplication tables music have to be a genius to read even if you want to become a racecar driver play baseball or build a house things have been turned upside down by software it's just all over 2013 technology to communicate information  none of us know how to read and write code when I school hours in this after school group called The Wiz Kids and people found out they laughed at me and you know all these things don't like man I don't care I think it's cool and you know I'm learn turn the light in summer phrase have jobs  policy is literally to hire as many talented Engineers as we the whole limit in the system is just that there just aren't enough people who are trained and have these skills today to get the very best people we try to make the awesome is possible Static Shock new places to play video games and scooters there's all these kind of interesting things around the office places where you can play or Max I'll go to thank or play music or be creative  whether you're trying to make a lot of money or what are you just want to change the world computer program is incredibly empowering skill to learn software is really about Humanity that is play about helping people by using computer technology it would have changed my outlook a lot earlier to be able to actually come up with an idea and then see it in your hands and then be able to press a button and have it be in millions of people's hands I mean I think we're the first generation the world that's really ever had that kind of experience just free time you can start something in your college dorm room and you can have a set of people who haven't built a big company before come together and build something that Pavilion who uses poor daily lives this is crazy to think of the future stop magic powers compared everybody else alright in we are back and not to continue what the presentation something the video sad. We need to keep in mind guises. in the future  there will be over 1 million jobs that will be on failed because not all schools provide classes in computer science and a lot of people are not getting degrees in computer science so although there's a lot of more a lot more there's not enough people graduating with a degree to work on those jobs so this is why it is important that we how to program and hopefully you guys will be excited about it and like it enough that in the future you what's going programming quote from Mark who was or who is a co-founder for Facebook in 15 years will be teaching programming just like reading and writing and wondering why we didn't do it sooner why computer science is important think about yourself ask yourself why do you think it's a can we use it everyday pretty much your cell phones at home and school computers their cars a lot of Technology relies on being program by somebody stars going to just give us a little  set of a reason as to why computer science is important everybody in this country to learn how to program a computer in computer language I think and I do computer science as a liberal art it should be something that everybody learn takes it takes a year turn their life one of the courses they take is you know learning how to program do you agree with this  Computer Sciences important because he makes you think teaches you just this is one of the biggest things that computer science Logic the ability to think and to solve problems that is one of the things that makes up and yes it is something that we need says when you think about the future I think it's very important to be able to learn the language of coding and programming  I agree with that talk about what you can do with code there's a lot to do with it set the different jobs that you can get you can design video games I know a lot of interested on this you can develop mannequin software apps when you learn computer science  sadly there is a big gap between the amount of animal students graduating from college that are able to fill those jobs that look at theirs signs of college students graduate with a degree in computer science and the numbers have dropped since the last decade that means out of all the jobs of the US  60% of them are in computers but only 2% people to call and feel those jobs because there's not enough people graduating computer jobs are the number one source of new wages and the US that means 500,000 current openings jobs every kind of industry in every state and these are projected to grow a lot more in the future turn the volume of a computer science education for students that graduated from college their lifetime earnings how much money they earn in their life in the life is 1.19 million but the graduate with a computer science major up to 1.7 million in their lifetime that's 40% more than the average college student graduate so what are we going to do about this how make this better we're going to be and what is going to the hotel org website and you complete some tutorials on Kodi you going to be working on Minecraft coding similar as last year's just a Livermore what is going to happen tomorrow Friday during your second. And Richmond and he saw you going to be doing it first off computers need to be charged you need to make sure that you bring your butt because you are going to be listening or watching some videos start with your lesson and you're going to be logging into your Chromebooks same as always your AR login have you see how you see that you passed to chew on your ID number once you are if you're going to open Chrome and go to our school website it is mjhs mcisd talking here you go down to the news and announcements and here I have added a link to the hour of code you're going to click there and is going to take you to the website for the Minecraft tutorials that is going to be two options for you the first one is the Minecraft adventure this is going to be for those of you that have never done coding or not very comfortable with Cody so you choose this one is going to be more of a guided tutorial II which is the Minecraft assignor is for students that have done coding before or are a little bit more comfortable or fast and the Art of Cody so you're going to be picking one for the only thing is once you pick one train the other unless you finish for the tutorial wouldn't have time left over so finish the tutorial then you can go and try just friend one afterwards but don't go and get out of it and try a different one without finishing it  status important that you to watch the videos now keep in mind that because there's going to be a lot of students on the network this happens click on the second option that says no video show knows if you click on that is going to give you a list of all the nose that the video covers is important that you either watch the video or read the news because he does give you tips on how to complete the assignment or the lesson that you're working on as you complete your lessons the little circle foxes going to give you information about how you did in that specific lesson that the first option the basic craft tutorial it's going to have Fortune lessons and as you look of you as you see in here there's all the lessons are bright green except with one one is a lightning what that means is that all the prep greens are done set correctly and the other one it was done correctly however there was maybe one or two extra steps aware so we're not necessary that we cannot have a we don't want you to do is one of the bottom where it has yellow and white circles the yellow means that equals that you tried it but you did succeed on that listen and the white one means that you skipped it so try not to skip around trying not to move around because it fills up on each other filled up and if you start skipping you make it a little bit lost later on because you missed some kind of instruction or did you not learn how to do it on a previous lesson try to just keep going through the lesson if you feel it try it again until you get that filled in green circle  alright so before we finished I have one last video to show you say hopefully it will get your little bit more into the mood for the coding tour tomorrow  I'll start turn basketball tennis football it takes years of commitment success isn't just talk change of body  your body and brain is strong putting something always no idea basketball champions what's the address Acadia front of Darlington but I do blue suit for you deleted contacts  you can dream it you can do it  you can bring any idea the like it takes time and determination like anything else you'll make mistakes you'll get better you'll get stronger and you'll see push yourself push yourself Richmond anybody can learn something thing Ulysses anybody can learn to just have to push yourself and it's not just with the hour of code programming in applies to everything in your life you can do anything you set your mind to it and so I'm going to leave you and this last quote from President Barack Barack Obama play on your phone and so I hope that you are ready for coding tomorrow in a fart this wonderful event called the hour of code for together by co.org hopefully you guys have a wonderful time tomorrow and I wish you the best have a great day pictures thank you
